Teaching Students to Talk with - And Listen to - Those with Different Backgrounds and Perspectives: A Panel Discussion

Communicating with those who come from different perspectives than ourselves is a vital project as we strive to learn from and share what we have learned with others. In this current moment of national polarization, though, this sort of communication can be hard to come by – even, perhaps, in our own classrooms. In this discussion, panelists and participants will consider ways of teaching our students to talk with and listen to people from different backgrounds and viewpoints. Panelists will bring their own scholarly work and teaching experiences to bear on this question, opening up discussion to address faculty concerns about how to help our students to engage with others in a world of diverse identities, experiences and outlooks. All faculty and others teaching at Penn are welcome.
