Thank You for Your Service: A Film and Conversation About the Impact of Combat Trauma

Although PTSD affects only 7-8% of the entire population, this statistic doubles for the military veteran population. When first released from combat, many young men and women face serious adjustment difficulties as they attempt to reintegrate into educational settings, civilian jobs, and family life. The Center for Ethics and the Rule of Law (CERL) will present a screening of the 2015 documentary film "Thank You for Your Service" followed by a panel discussion addressing the crisis society faces as record numbers of veterans return home with combat trauma. The event provides an opportunity for young men and women affected by PTSD in the University community to learn more about the challenges they and others face and to come together with others similarly situated to share their experiences. The film and the panel discussion should spark a cross-campus discussion about combat trauma, its relation to other forms of trauma, such as sexual trauma, and its impact on the Penn Community as well as on other civilian settings.
