Philosophy and Engagement Conference

Penn’s Philosophy department and Netter Center are partnering to put on a weekend-long conference, open to the public, addressing the theme of Philosophy and Engagement. What is the proper relationship between philosophy, whose central questions are often regarded as timeless and abstract, with the particular and concrete social problems of the day? What can engagement with broader social problems add to philosophical endeavors, and what, if anything, do philosophers have to contribute to addressing those challenges? This conference builds on and forges new community connections, addressing connections between Penn and the Philadelphia community, including area universities; connections with engaged philosophers from across the country; and intra-institutional connections between the Philosophy Department and the Netter Center.
