Art & Culture

Art & Culture

Arts and culture are at the center of campus life at Penn. We offer distinguished visitors, exciting performances, and illuminating exhibits every day of the year, for both the campus and the community, at such venues as the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Arthur Ross Gallery, Institute of Contemporary Art, Kelly Writers House, Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, and Platt Student Performing Arts House.

Open Learning

Penn is strongly committed to open learning — a vital part of our mission to increase access, around the world, to the educational resources that can change people’s lives.  We are proud to be one of the founding partners and board members in Coursera, the online platform for open-access, non-credit classes, available at no cost to audiences around the world.  Penn faculty are leading the way in innovations in online educaton that are in turn transforming the nature of teaching and learning on our own campus.

Diversity

We value diversity as a means toward the essential ends of higher education: equalizing opportunity, educating leaders for all sectors of society, and enriching the experience of all members of our community. At the same time, diversity remains an aspiration and a goal that demands continual improvement, as it shapes our shared responsibility, as an intellectual community, to advance a variety of new approaches and consider issues from a wide range of viewpoints.

Reaccreditation

Penn will undergo its official reaccreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education in 2014. Completed every ten years, reaccreditation is a critical process in which the University first conducts an in-depth campus-wide Self-Study, focused for this cycle on undergraduate education, and then welcomes a team of evaluators from peer universities that carries out a detailed review of Penn's compliance with national standards and offers recommendations for the future.
